DEBUT EP RELEASE
"Birds of a Feather"
Press Release: Alicia Adkins (USA/Texas) Releases Debut EP “Birds of a Feather” in Melbourne, Australia (Release Date 30th June)
Texan country & folk songstress Alicia Adkins will be releasing her debut EP, “Birds of a Feather” on the 30th of June at the Workers Club in Fitzroy (Melbourne, Australia).
With a varied style, and voice "as sweet as honey," Alicia's lived and played in much of the world; including France, Italy, India, and now Australia. “[…] Alicia Adkins is fairly new to Melbourne, but she brings with her an incredible voice, breathtaking songs and interesting experiences all over the world”. – Les Thomas, Unpaved. In the last year, Alicia has tripled her original repertoire and quickly created a buzz in Melbourne's local music scene, playing frequently at venues like the Standard, Old Bar, Retreat, and Wesley Anne.
Alicia recorded this set of original songs on April 25th with some of Melbourne’s finest - Pete Fidler on dobro and banjo and Josh Bridges on bass. Joe Ferguson recorded, mixed, and mastered by the songs at Decibels Studio in Melbourne.
With influences ranging from the Mumford and Sons to Patty Griffin and Loretta Lynn; Alicia wrote this collection of songs, “Birds of a feather,” in the music traditions that surrounded her growing up in Texas, the daughter of two ministers. While lyrics in the title track have caused some controversy back home; the honest, heartfelt, and unedited songs ruminate beautifully on the glories and hardships of love and the wandering traveller.
Alicia is in for an exciting year, touring Australia and New Zealand, and taking an overdue trip back to the USA to tour at the end of September. She looks forward to returning to Australia shortly to record 16 new songs largely based on Australian themes that she wrote in one week on tour earlier this year in north Queensland.
The EP will be on sale online July 1st at www.aliciaadkins.com. A preview track from “Birds of a Feather”, “My Hometown” can be streamed at: www.aliciaadkins.com.
Key dates of the Tour (in Australia) include:
